Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) again beat the rival browsers in a test of their malware-blocking abilities, catching 81% of attack code-infected sites, according to a testing company.
IE8’s skills at sniffing out malware sites improved by 17% since March, said Rick Moy, president of NSS Labs, the firm that conducted the benchmarks. The testing was sponsored by Microsoft’s security team.
While IE8 blocked eight of 10 of the malware-distributing sites that NSS included in its 12-day test, the nearest competitor, Mozilla’s Firefox 3.0, caught just 27% of the same sites. Apple’s Safari 4.0 and Google’s Chrome 2.0, meanwhile, blocked only 21% and 7% of the sites, respectively. Opera Software’s browser properly identified only 1%.
Facebook is making strategic moves to evolve into something greater than just Myspace.com. It purchased FriendFeed, a popular niche social networking platform, and the talented development team that built it. It has rolled out new search functionality, and a new ability to share status updates with the entire network in real-time. It has rumored connections to the recently announced RockMelt web browser and is supposedly working on a payment system. All of these moves work to keep Facebook one step ahead of competing sites and establish itself as a must-use platform.
And why not? Facebook is no Google (yet), but they have amassed over 250+ million members in a relatively short amount of time. Every new member of Facebook is reaching out to their friends and family and inviting them to also join the Facebook network so they can share status updates, photos, compete against each other in web-based games, and take silly quizzes about what personality disorder they have.

Facebook unveiled a new down sized version of its website on Wednesday, August 12. Eventhough the release was intended to a small group of selected testers, it was exposed to a larger set of users.
According to Facebook, the Lite edition is a fast-loading, simplified version of Facebook that enables people to post comments, accept friend requests and look at photos and status updates. Facebook Lite is being tested in India and other countries where new users are flooding to the service. Invitations to take part in a private test of ‘Facebook Lite’ reached a variety of U.S. bloggers only to have the enclosed links to be available to everyone online.
The screen shots of the new version captured and posted online revealed a Facebook page devoted to fresh comments and updates from friends in a style that could challenge the real-time interplay on Twitter.
Facebook had announced on Monday that it had acquired FriendFeed, a startup which allows members to see what their friends are doing online and share content. FriendFeed has been described as a potential rival to Twitter in its ability to conduct real-time search, an area where Facebook has been seeking to expand.
Is the facebook trying to prove that, insecure +Twitter=Facebook. Facebook may have many apps to survive in the ocean, but what if it is offering insecurity to its user.
By the new improved Facebook Lite, it could offer more feeds from friends, and other user in a contensed way.. People you need to worry a Lot when you post a content that can affect other users,..

The main route of transmission of the new influenza A(H1N1) virus seems to be similar to seasonal influenza, via droplets that are expelled by speaking, sneezing or coughing. You can prevent getting infected by avoiding close contact with people who show influenza-like symptoms and taking the following measures:
> avoid touching your mouth and nose;
> clean hands thoroughly with soap and water, or cleanse them with an alcohol-based hand rub on a regular basis;
> avoid close contact with people who might be ill;
> reduce the time spent in crowded settings;
> improve airflow in your living space by opening windows;
> practise good health habits including adequate sleep, eating nutritious food and being active.
Remember Prevention is better than cure..!

Mozilla has released the first alpha version of Firefox 3.6, a browser with speed improvements and new features the organization hopes to finalize faster than its predecessor.
Firefox 3.6 is built on pre-release version of the Gecko 1.9.2 platform, which forms the core of rich internet applications such as Firefox.
“Unlike the year that passed between Firefox 3 and Firefox 3.5, we expect that this 3.6 release will be released in a few months,” Mozilla evangelist Chris Blizzard said in a blog post Friday.
Firefox 3.6, code-named Namoroka, has a variety of changes, but it’s not as dramatic a departure as 3.5 was from 3.0. Among the 3.6 features are faster JavaScript, the Web programming language Firefox executes with its TraceMonkey engine; faster page-rendering speed; some new features for CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) technology for controlling some of the look of a Web site; and a feature called the compositor that handles complicated layout circumstances better.
This release is intended for developers and testers only.
Even though Apple prevented it from listing Google Voice on the iPhone App Store, Google is planning on retooling the application as a Web-based app, according to The New York Times.
Google has already found a loophole:
Already, Google says it is readying a replacement for the Google Voice app that will offer exactly the same features as the rejected app–except that it will take the form of a specialized, iPhone-shaped Web page. For all intents and purposes, it will behave exactly the same as the app would have; you can even install it as an icon on your Home screen.
Google Voice is a free application that lets users assign a single number to ring their home, work, and cell phones, and also get voice mail as text transcriptions. Google Voice allows cheap international calls and free text messages.
It’s not clear if simply making Google Voice available as a Web app will change Apple’s mind, but there is precedent. Apple also rejected Google’s Latitude for the iPhone until it was remade as Web app.
The Georgian blogger whose Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube accounts were targeted in denial-of-service attacks on Thursday, says he thinks Russia’s federal security service is behind it.
“This hackers was from Russian KGB,” the blogger, who uses “Cyxymu” on his accounts, wrote in a tweet early on Friday, adding later: “My twitter is online! Thank you all for support after ciber attack from Russia!”
Because of the difficulty in tracing distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks back to the source, unless someone takes credit for the attack or brags about it to online associates, it’s nearly impossible to determine exactly who was responsible.
Cyxymu is identified as a 34-year-old economics lecturer named Georgy from Tblisi, Georgia, by The Guardian. His blog postings are critical of Russia’s dealings with the Caucasus region and his screen name is a Latinized version of the spelling of Sukhumi, the capital of Abkhazia, a breakaway Georgian republic.
“Maybe it was carried out by ordinary hackers but I’m certain the order came from the Russian government,” he is quoted as saying. His LiveJournal account was attacked last year, as well, according to the report.
The DDoS attacks came on the eve of the one-year anniversary of a significant military clash between Russia and Georgia, which have had an ongoing conflict. In the 2008 South Ossetia war that began on August 7, 2008, Georgia attempted to retake control of South Ossetia and Russia launched air strikes against Georgia.
