McAfee, Facebook Announce Collaboration

A recent report about social networking being the most vulnerable areas of the Internet for attacks seems to have prompted Facebook to collaborate with McAfee, a leading security solutions provider.

Under the terms of the deal, Mcafee will provide free subscription of its Internet Security Suite software to the Facebook users for six months. Apart from this, Mcafee will also provide an online tool that would look to scan and remove any potential threat that might be lurking around a non-suspecting Facebook user’s computer.
Facebook and McAfee are also working towards creating a custom scanning and repair tool which will be made available as free download or might be sold at discounted prices to Facebook users. Facebook has revealed that it would not be raking any revenues from this deal and that the money earned by the sale of these applications will be used to add more features and bring more benefits to Facebook users.

All you now need to do to check out the McAfee-Facebook offer is to visit the Protect Your PC tab on the McAfee Page on Facebook.

Why Google search bar see only negatives..?

A simple search of “Twitter is” on Google spawns suggestions like — Twitter is down, Twitter is over capacity, Twitter is useless; Try this ..

Tried again with the Google’s rival Facebook, still no Luck, only negative options . Google gave results like Facebook is slow, I like this option “Facebook is for Old people”.

Who in this big old world will try only negative keywords as the most widely used search parameters? There was only one way to find out.

Try “Orkut is”, . No wonder IT Companies in India Ban Orkut. Orkut is certified by Google as a “banned virus” see the image.

Now what exactly is Google.?. I tried out by adding “Google is” in the search bar..

Atleast Google gave a mixture of good, and bad search results. 🙂

Canadians Forces Facebook to tighten the privacy rules

This should be how a Law should function… For the people…

After a year-long review from the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, Facebook has agreed to give users more information about how it uses their data for advertising, and to change the default settings of its privacy controls – which many users leave unaltered – to better reflect users’ preferences.

The move, which comes in response to complaints from Canadian privacy officials, will clamp down the use of personal data by social networking sites and the software developers who use them to distribute their applications.

By giving more power to the consumers over their information, the move will increase online consumer protection by disallowing the Facebook to sell the sensitive information to their advertisers. This will also restrict the makers of the games and quizzes to post all contents in the  profile pages.

“Application developers have had virtually unrestricted access to Facebook users’ personal information,” privacy commissioner Jennifer Stoddart told. “The changes Facebook plans to introduce will allow users to control the types of personal information that applications can access.”

The changes, which Facebook will introduce over the next year, will affect all 250 million Facebook users worldwide.

This move could have repercussions for other sites such as MySpace and Twitter.

Facebook Lite goes Live

Facebook unveiled a new down sized version of its website on Wednesday, August 12. Eventhough the release was intended to a small group of selected testers, it was exposed to a larger set of users.

According to Facebook, the Lite edition is a fast-loading, simplified version of Facebook that enables people to post comments, accept friend requests and look at photos and status updates. Facebook Lite is being tested in India and other countries where new users are flooding to the service. Invitations to take part in a private test of ‘Facebook Lite’ reached a variety of U.S. bloggers only to have the enclosed links to be available to everyone online.

The screen shots of the new version capturedFacebook-Lite and posted online revealed a Facebook page devoted to fresh comments and updates from friends in a style that could challenge the real-time interplay on Twitter.

Facebook had announced on Monday that it had acquired FriendFeed, a startup which allows members to see what their friends are doing online and share content. FriendFeed has been described as a potential rival to Twitter in its ability to conduct real-time search, an area where Facebook has been seeking to expand.

Is the facebook trying to prove that, insecure +Twitter=Facebook. Facebook may have many apps to survive in the ocean, but what if it is offering insecurity to its user.

By the new improved Facebook Lite, it could offer more feeds from friends, and other user in a contensed way.. People you need to worry a Lot when you post a content that can affect other users,..

Facebook celebrates 250 millionth user

You probably had a good idea that Facebook was popular, but I’m sure many users didn’t know just how popular the social website was. According to the most recent Facebook Blog post by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook now connects 250 million people. To celebrate this fact Facebook has developed some cool animation to show just how connected Facebook is globally.Facebook

Besides being a place where 250 million people can now connect, it’s clear from Facebook’s animation that the website has become a global community. It’s hard to imagine that Facebook first started as a spinoff of a Harvard University social website called Facemash.

I have personally been amazed to find some of the friends  I haven’t been able to track down for long time on Facebook.  Some how Facebook just makes it easy to connect with long lost friends and family members. That’s part of the reason why the company now has 250 million users.
